Greenhouse and Terrace
Patterson Park Public Charter School has a newly installed greenhouse on a 4th floor terrace that is used for environmental education. The terrace has an outdoor classroom with seating for 28 students, a potting bench, and four water collection barrels.
Structures for Environmental Learning
Rain Barrels
Students work with community volunteers to create rain water collection systems which are used by the school to water plants in the greenhouse and around the school grounds. Students learn about the value and importance of water conservation in the process.
Our "Outdoor Classroom"
Our Science Lab includes an outdoor classroom that seats over 28 students. Students use this space to work on a variety of scientific endeavors including planting seeds, modeling ecosystems, and many other projects that might be to messy for a traditional classroom. The area includes a potting bench, an outdoor sink, and patio "lab tables".
Downspout Planters
Parks and People, along with students at PPPCS made, decorated and planted these planters. The planter is attached to the downspouts so that the runoff from the roof is filtered and used to water native plantings.
